Welcome to the Open Forum, hosted by Kotaku's reader-run blog, TAY. This is a place to talk about life, video games, or anything else, so feel free to join in the topic discussion, or comment about anything. Then, when you're done, feel free to peruse the articles on TAY, AniTAY, and TAYClassic. Is this is your first time on TAY or the Open Forum? Then check out this handy TAYTorial!
OMAIGOSH I'm hosting the Open Forum today! You guys I'm so excited you don't even know! :D This is such a huge honor, I'd like to thank the academy, and Morie having a busy schedule! Let's do this!
(Pictured: Some guy pretending to be excited, he's got nothing on me.)
So yesterday was my sister's birthday, but we had kind of already celebrated during New Year's because everyone was home. She wasn't super stoked about it, but hey, she still got to have her cake and eat it too, as it were. Why mention this you ask? Well, let me conveniently use the subjects of emotion and vidja games to ask you this!
When was the last time you felt a real rush of excitement, never-ending boredom, or any raw emotion when playing a video game? Do you remember was caused such a feeling? Details people, details!
As I've posted about previously, Five Night's At Freddy's and The Long Dark both let a slow feeling of paranoia over-take you only to then burst your heart out of your chest via, coincidentally, a wolf in both cases. (Not Pictured: Either Wolf, because NOPE.)
In contrast, I've also been playing both Shovel Knight and Fantasy Life. Both games have such colorful palettes and witty banter that I can't help but smile and just enjoy the moments as they come. I'm starting to love games that have simple mechanics but solid writing and atmosphere.
As always, feel free to Talk Amongst Yourselves if talking about feelings isn't your jam. It is the Open Forum, after all. Heck you may not even be reading this black text because you're so used to it being the default. Don't forget that the IRC Channel is always around for you to carry out discussions as well. If you wanted to give an admin, author, and/or friend a shout: You can find them on the DirecTAYry. And if you're still reading, thanks, I appreciate your resolve.
