Great little video about why Bethesda should milk the Fallout franchise while it’s still relevant! Allowing risky spinoffs enables mid-size devs to give their own spin on Fallout, and take it in a direction that’s both interesting and hard to market.
The example he uses here is Fallout: New Vegas - a “happy accident” made by the budget devs behind Alpha Protocol and South Park: The Stick of Truth. In the opinion of many, myself included, New Vegas is the best Fallout game to date - and it would have never happened if Bethesda didn’t loan the property out to an external developer.
