Oh the weather outside is frightful, but these levels are so delightful.
The leaves have fallen and my electric bill is through the roof. Winter is almost here. Game of Thrones fans, you know what I mean. And while I love the look of snow, it's never been one of my favorite forms of weather, at least in the real world. I mean have you felt that stuff? It'll all cold and wet. Terrible.
Virtual snow is another story. So let's talk about gamings best snow and ice levels. Levels full of slippery footing, blinding flurries and icey items.
The standout in my mind for the best snow-themed level goes to Banjo-Kazooie's wacky take on winter. Giant snowman? Check. Evil smaller snowmen? Check. Potentially orphaned polarbear cubs? Check. Race with a walrus? You better believe it. Not to mention the mysterious ice key that was unattainable to those plaything through on the N64 (as god intended) and the ability to transform into a seal (as Mumbo intended).
It's also the most Christmasy level I've ever seen in a game. I mean, you even have to locate presents and fight off evil Christmas tree lights. I'm surprised Santa doesn't show up at some point. I always wondered how players who didn't celebrate Christmas felt about all of it...
And how about that soundtrack? Why, it's the most jaunty winter tune I've ever heard!
