Lentleman and Gadies... no wait, that's not right! I take one day off and already lost my mojo.... Ugh!
It's the knockout stage! Woo! Everything changes now, it's a battle for survival. No weird goal difference or points conditions, one simple mistake and you're (probably) out. Also rejoice Americans, it is impossible to end a match in a draw at this stage (actually it is still possible, but the conditions state that a winner has come out these matches), finally all your dreams come true! Although... judging by the US Men's National Team group stage performance...
Anyway, yeah no more draws after 90 minutes! If the score stays balanced by the end of regular time, the matches will continue for two extra periods of 15 minutes each. Also no golden goal AKA Sudden Death, that game mechanic was eliminated with the release of Version 17.2.1 released in July 2002.
But first... what happened on Day 15? Well Hulk Hogan jinxed the U.S. Men's National Team or USMNT (not to be confused with the TMNT), yeah, next time please bring a humble spokesperson, not that expired pumped up raisin. So the USMNT got trashed by the Germans, and then the Nazi abuse party started, some things never change, like war... war never changes.
Also Russia got the boot, and humble Algeria made it through ♪
But hey it's all about Day 17! From today until Tuesday we'll have two matches per day, one at 12PM EST, and the other at 4PM EST.
First up is the nation with the wildest and proudest fans, and no, I'm not talking about Brazil, it's Chile! The almighty Roja who eliminated the champions in the group stage. Although... Brazil are the hosts, and they will win today's match. To be fair, Chile were exquisite during the Group Stage, but their style of play is way too open and perfect for Brazil's speedy counterattack. It should be a thrilling match and who knows maybe we'll see the first Penalty Shootout today. I really want Chile to win, but my gut tells me Brazil are going through to the quarter finals.
Talking about teams without grace, it's Uruguay sans Luisito Suarez, versus the best team according to FIFA's Power Rankings, Colombia! Colombia won all of their games in the group stage, and are currently in second place amongst the best offense of the Tourney, not only that but their defense is one of the best too.
Uruguay on the other hand are in big cahoots after their talisman was found guilty of biting and got suspended for four months without football, but in reality he lost balance and clawed his teeth on Giorgio Chiellini's shoulder, it was an accident like his previous two before (pictured above), or so he claims.
