Woof! Day 5 finished with a bang! Actually it started with a headbutt, continued with a snooze fest and finished with Team USA winning Hollywood style in stoppage time.
Germany pummeled the Portugal of Pepe and Ronaldo, who were disappointing in their own way. Pepe by being the tool he usually is, and winning his sixth red card in 15 matches in the World Cup, and Ronaldo for being present physically but not spiritually.
Herr Klinsmann man management skills proved him right, but not everything went dandy for team USA, as they lost Jozy Altidore to an injury that might rule him out for the rest of the tournament. Oh yes there was a third match in yesterday's journée, but I fell asleep, no offense to the Iranian team ( who were far superior) or the Nigerians, but their levels are not up to par for the tournament; my recommendation: to grind with low level monsters from the first dungeon.
Now Day 6 is amongst us, and hipster's favorite, Belgium, has an easy match against the African nation of Algeria. At snack time it's Mexico's big day, El Tri faces La Canarinha of Felipao (actually Mexico is the only team who have beaten Brazil in the last two years); Brazil who was disappointing at their opening match has the arduous task of winning over their fans, and their fans only want one thing, winning the World Cup through the Jogo Bonito. Finally to conclude the sixth matchday of the tournament, Russia take on S. Korea............. Seriously, I have no idea about these two.
- 12:00 PM EST: Belgium vs Algeria @ Estádio Mineirão, Belo Horizonte.
Belgium 3 - 0 Algeria
- 3:00 PM EST: Brazil vs Mexico @ Estádio Castelão, Fortaleza.
Brazil 3 - 2 Mexico
- 6:00 PM EST: Russia vs Korea Republic @ Arena Pantanal, Cuiabá.
Russia 1 - 1 Korea Republic
To make things a bit more interesting... a point will be awarded to those who get the results right and two extra points for each correct scoreline. Feeling lucky? Then make a bold prediction and win an extra point for each one you get right, like Mexico beating Brazil by more than three goals, or Kim Jong-un crashing South Korea's party before realizing that N. Korea did not qualify to the WC.
So TAY what are your predictions for today's matches?
I took the liberty to create a spreadsheet (still on the early stages) to make it easier to keep track of our records... anyway, if you want to access it, just click here.
