(Ah Yes... Master Koi didn't handle the instructions on how to use the fancy graphics systems, so I had to resort to hand drawing all my graphics =/ hope you like 'em!)
Crane and Ottsel are battling hard to see who's the nicest around here, eh? Koi won another star for its efforts during this last week, same goes for Swan, and Dragon, now about Cat, hmmm don't know... It's a shady character...
OK... Master Koi just informed me that Cat also deserves a star this week!
Our theme for this week is brought you by...
OK, now that we are clear of our financial obligations with our partners...
The SunTAY© Morning Pondling Debate (Issue 05)
Our topic today: Multiplayer: Online Vs Local. For millenia our race has broken barriers in search for one thing, interaction, we thrive on contact with our own species, whether this contact is direct or indirect. Gaming has evolved in a similar way, we have our single player adventures, but the chaos that comes when you game with a partner is always an entertaining one. Local Multiplayer offers the advantange of yelling at your rivals face with all your heart, but Online Multiplayer gives you the advantage to troll your enemy and not get a black eye as a result.
Koi: Master Koi is away this weekend =(
Crane: Hmm, tough question! Having the option for both would make all games perfect! Haha!
But as to my preference…. I might have to go with local. Local multiplayer gives me nostalgia. It reminds me of the good old days of my childhood, where we would all gather around the TV playing games together. We would have tournaments - winner stays on, talk to each other about the game, lament when someone fell off or giggle in glee at someone when they were finally found and karate chopped to death. It provides me with a much more personal interaction, I can just say a quick comment, or laugh out loud, easily share a joke with the other person. That is what I miss about online gaming. The ease of communication. I know, you can type things out, but hell, that is so much more effort. And often I don’t have time to type something out when I’m being chased or something. I don’t think I’m a slow typist but it really takes too much time, especially if you’re trying to coordinate a battle or find you need help in the middle of one. I only have two hands!
However with online multiplayer you can play with people who are not in the same room as you! And I find that my room is often empty nowadays… Without online multiplayer I wouldn’t be able to play with others at all! Most of the time I only play multiplayer with my friends, so I could plug in a headset or something to get voice chat for communication, however for some reason we often don’t do that. I guess we’re a bit lazy… We really should get more into voice chatting while gaming online, I think that would make it a much better experience. Voice chat is almost as good as real life chatting. However, that almost is probably the reason why I would still prefer if we could all just be together and play locally rather than online. It’s just not quite the same.
Ottsel: Definitely Local, I've had countless nights spent with my friends playing Smash Bros, I think it's been almost ten years, where we would gather at my house to play at least once per week, heh! The amount of nicknames we've made for the attacks, variations of game modes, insults, wombo combos, heh! we even nicknamed certain events in the game, for example if on a 1vs 1 battle your first life lasts less than 20 seconds is a Burger King Drive Thru, less than 15 it's a McDonald's; if you die twice before taking a stock of your rival then you are on a Doki Doki Panic! XD or the best is the multiple Game modes we've created:
Smash Showdown: Custom game
- HP: 1HP
- Speed: Slow
- Items: Off
- Final Destination only
- Character: Fox
- One Stock
Just like wild west two gun men stand at the sides of the level, wait for the cue.... and.... BANG!
Then I came up with the silliest idea, what if we take Smash Showdown, same custom settings, and use random characters on CPU lvl 1, place our bets on the winner, and that's how Gambling Mode was created. If you add Coins then it's Slot Machine Mode.
Also on the Yoshi Island and Animal Crossing levels there are these environmental effects/events that occur every now and then, IE: Yoshi Island has the Shy Guys flying around, AC has the Balloons floating into the screen, the player that has the most balloons popped or shy guys knocked down at the end of the match wins!
And who can forget Colliseum Urmum:
- Stock: 5 Stocks
- Size: Giant
- Speed: Fast
- Items: On Very High, just explosives and smash balls
- Random Character
We created this bottle shaped level were we would duke it out inside the walls of bottle, oh the amount of times we made the Wii hiccup with the madness going on the screen!
And last but not least, the All Ganondorf Battle:
- Stock: 3 Stocks
- Size: Normal
- Speed: Normal
- Items: Off
- Character allowed: Ganondorf
- Levels Allowed: Yoshi Island and Animal Crossing
Always the last match of the night, the reason why we chose Ganondorf, is because we never main'd the character, being slow but super powerful, doesn't suit of more frantic style of gameplay, and the selection of the levels, is because all the other levels can't handle the amount of darkness from having four Ganondorfs battling!
I don't think you can coordinate those type of matches through online, look these were conceived after 5 or 6 hours of continuous play, we were tired but we wanted to play some more, hence why these game modes are so ridiculous.
I could at least mention that if it wasn't for online multiplayer, I wouldn't be talking to any of you guys, since Animal Crossing and the endless nights playing with the TAY folks, made my experience with the game better.
Closing Comments: each game mode has it's faults and virtues, and each person should just go for the one that suits him/her better. Lately, ever since my life started to drift between Venezuela and the US I have changed my opinion on Online Multi, and accepted it, I am still not a fan of using voice chat, but little by little I've been using it.
